ExpressVPN offers a top-quality service that doesn’t cut corners. With a global network of high-speed servers, it is ideal for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, making it easy to connect to faster servers, and keeping your IP and internet usage hidden. Its solid encryption is great for bypassing government surveillance, censorship, and network restrictions, as well as protecting you from DDoS attacks.

The only challenge with Express is its premium price point. It might be enough to put some people off, but you certainly do get what you pay for. Fortunately, Express offers a generous 30-day money-back guarantee and exceptional 24/7 customer service for users. Overall, we think it’s a top tier VPN service that’s worth every penny.

Private Internet Access is a great Mobile Legends VPN. They have a feature called “Squid” proxies which uses less encryption in order to improve speeds.

    $2.69 –

  • Available on

Private Internet Access (PIA) offers one of the most reliable services available, and at a competitively low cost, too. Its worldwide network of servers delivers great speeds without sacrificing privacy, making it ideal for getting around slow servers. I tested it global server network to bypass geo-restrictions and found it to be fantastic for unblocking content and accessing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang servers in different countries. I also tested it with Netflix and it worked without issues, so this is definitely a good all-rounder.

One of the best things about PIA is its zero-logs policy, which means it collects no data about your usage or connection to its services (a claim it has proven in court!) I used it to gain privacy at home and on public Wi-Fi, and it was reliable and stable everywhere I went. With its deep focus on privacy, this VPN excels at beating restrictive networks – helping users to get the most out of gaming and online services in both school and work. Overall, PIA is a great low-cost option and I definitely recommend comparing it to our other recommendations yourself by using its 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost offers an outstanding VPN for Mobile Legends. They have an easy to use apps for iOS and Android, which great for anyone that is new to VPNs.

    • Hulu

CyberGhost is a fully featured VPN service that continues to impress us. Its strong encryption, good speeds, and wealth of features make it excellent for users looking for a VPN that will do more than just help them game better. Its built-in app protection allows you to automatically launch the VPN and connect to a specific server whenever you open named apps, saving you the trouble of switching servers whenever you want to play Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

One feature that is currently lacking is obfuscation (stealth) technology, which would make it better for users in countries with mass surveillance and censorship (such as China). This does not mean that the VPN is not secure, however, as it allows you to run OpenVPN connection over TCP port 443 to cloak VPN traffic as regular HTTPS. All in all, CyberGhost delivers a premium service without the premium price tag.

VyprVPN have slick apps for iOS and Android users, making it a great choice for Mobile Legends players. They have a strong focus on gaming and located servers next to gaming servers.

  • Pricing

    From

    $2.50 –
    $12.95

  • Available on

    • Windows
    • macOS
    • iOS
    • Android
    • Linux
  • Unblocks

    • Netflix
    • iPlayer
    • Amazon Prime
    • Hulu

VyprVPN is an easy-to-use VPN that’s great for beginners who are looking for a service that they can put through its paces. With automatic reconnect and kill switch functions, users are protected if their server connection should fail at any time (but be aware that kill switch functions could end your game). On top of this, Vypr boasts an impressive proprietary obfuscation technology called Chameleon that claims to beat even deep packet inspection.

VyprVPN is the first to have published a full and independent audit of its zero logs service; an impressive display of privacy and a real confidence booster for users who worry about connection and usage logs. This deep-rooted drive for a truly open and unrestricted internet experience makes it fantastic for users in countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Iran, where censorship and internet restrictions are commonplace. Vypr is an all-round secure service that users have come to rely on time and time again.

Ivacy have a strong reputation amongst gamers since they teamed up with esports club GamersOrigin. They offer fast servers, great security features, and it’s really cheap!

  • Pricing

    From

    $1.00 –
    $9.95

  • Available on

    • Windows
    • macOS
    • iOS
    • Android
    • Linux
  • Unblocks

    • Netflix
    • iPlayer
    • Amazon Prime
    • Hulu

Ivacy has been around for quite a while, only recently poking its head out to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the top names in the industry. With astoundingly fast server speeds, it offers a simple platform with lots of options for both new and advanced users. Alongside this great service comes excellent 24/7 customer support (and a 30-day money-back guarantee, just in case).

Privacy purists will note that the Ivacy website uses a large amount of tracking (including Google Analytics), and an unfortunate lack of true obfuscation (stealth) technology. However, it does offer OpenVPN port selection in Windows and Android, and our testing discovered no IP leaks whatsoever when using any of Ivacy’s software. Overall, this is a pretty impressive service that we think will only continue to improve.

Why do I need a VPN for Mobile Legends?

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is a fast-paced multiplayer online battle arena game that has had its fair share of issues with server lag, hacking users, and imbalanced games. Using a VPN can help you level the playing field by connecting to faster servers, preventing DDoS attacks (that can cause lag and even disconnect you entirely), and by creating a secure tunnel around your internet traffic. As well as improving your overall gaming experience, a good VPN can help you:

Will a VPN cause lag when I play Mobile Legends?

While a VPN will always slow your internet traffic, this will usually only be a negligible amount (since we’re adding another step in the connection process). If you’re looking to get around server lag, then this will depend primarily on which servers you are accessing, both for the VPN and for Mobile Legends. Using a VPN server that is far away from you will have a slower connection speed than one that is close by, so picking one that is close will help minimize any drop in connection speed. Choosing a server with a fast connection is always recommended when gaming.

On top of this, the MLBB server you connect to may also slow you down (depending on what country it is in and how congested it is). Connecting to a server that is congested and full of users will cause your connection to slow down significantly – introducing lag and affecting your gameplay. Most notably, some Asian servers regularly become saturated with players and can make the game unplayable for some users. Players in India recently noted extremely slow connections and unfair combat as Indonesian players took advantage of congested servers, high ping, and a lack of ping abuse countermeasures within the game.

How to change your server region

You can check your server by tapping on your avatar icon in the top corner. This will show your server number (in brackets) after your account ID. If you want to change your in-game server region, then (from the home page) go to Contest and select Conquest of Dawn. From here, click on the globe icon in the top corner (this will show your current server region, as well as letting you select a new region).

Be aware that you can only change your server region once a week.

Will I get banned for using a VPN with Mobile Legends?

We reached out to Moonton (the developers behind the game) to ask whether players would receive repercussions for using a VPN while playing, and unfortunately, they didn’t answer our questions.

What we can say for certain is that the app detects and bans players who use third-party plugins for the app that provide an unfair advantage. Moonton increased detection and punishment in response to a rise in “map hacking”: where players install a plugin to show where enemy players are on a map and strategize around the enemy’s locations. Since a VPN is not a plugin for the app, but rather an independent app that creates a tunnel for your internet traffic, it shouldn’t give you any trouble.

If you’re still concerned about how a VPN might affect your use of the game, don’t worry – using a VPN that gears more towards privacy will help to keep your usage hidden through obfuscation (stealth) technology. The right VPN will not only help you get the most out of the game, but will also keep you safe and private while doing it by hiding your information and traffic.

Can I get a free VPN for Mobile Legends?

Using a free VPN can be a good way to save money, but when it comes to MLBB, we do not recommend using one for the following reasons:

  • Free VPNs are limited to a small number of servers which are regularly congested. This will slow down your overall speed, and may even cause more lag than simply not using a VPN at all.
  • With limited servers comes limited geolocations, meaning that getting a server for your country, or one nearby, might not be available (and connecting to a far-away country will slow your internet traffic).
  • Free VPN services often impose speed and data restrictions (which can limit your game and even cut you off halfway through a match).
  • Free VPN services will often make their profits through monitoring and selling users’ personal information and VPN usage.
  • Some free VPNs have been known to infect devices with malware. Using such a VPN may harm your device, and may also risk being flagged by the game, landing you with an unsuspecting ban.

If you want to get the best service, but can’t afford a top-shelf VPN, then don’t worry. There are some fantastic and cheap VPN services available that won’t sacrifice game speed or security.

How do I set up a VPN on my phone?

Installing through your app store

If possible, the simplest way to install a VPN onto your phone is to do so through the App Store/Google Play Store/Huawei App Gallery/etc:

  1. Subscribe to a VPN.
  2. Download and Install the app.
  3. Connect to your desired server.
  4. Keep the app running in the background and start playing.

Can’t find the VPN on your device’s app store? Don’t worry, there are two other methods that you can try.

Sideloading a VPN with the .config file

  1. Go to your chosen provider’s website and download the OpenVPN configuration files for your desired server(s)/geolocation(s), and unzip them on your device (or onto a computer and then transfer it to your device).
  2. Download and install the OpenVPN Connect app.
  3. Run the OpenVPN Connect app and add a profile by clicking the “+” symbol at the top of the page. Name it, and click “import“.
  4. Find the configuration files from step 1 and select a server (.ovpn file). Click on the tick icon to continue.
  5. Your server name should appear under the profiles tab. Click on the profile to connect to that server.

If you want to use multiple servers/geolocations, just repeat the process.

Extra security and protection

After installing your VPN, we recommend checking that IPv6 routing and IPv4 leak protection are enabled to prevent DNS leaks and redirect all IPv6 and IPv4 traffic over the VPN. This can be done in two easy steps:

  1. Click the pen icon to edit the relevant Profile.
  2. Check that IPv4 and IPv6 “use default route“.

Don’t forget to check your VPN for leaks

Sideloading a VPN with the .apk file

This method is better for players in countries with mass censorship and surveillance:

  1. From your device’s app store, download a file manager app such as ES File Manager (if you don’t already have one).
  2. Download the .apk files onto your device from the provider’s website (or download it onto a computer and transfer it across to your device).
  3. Open your file manager app, then find and install the .apk file.
  4. Open the app, log in, and configure your settings.

Troubleshooting

If your VPN isn’t working like it should, or you’re struggling to access websites or content, try:

  • Checking your VPN’s connection.
  • Using a different server or a different geolocation.
  • Reinstalling your VPN.
  • Checking your VPN account information is correct and up-to-date.
  • Checking your internet connection.
  • Contacting your VPN provider (they may have a solution at hand).

If your provider cannot resolve the issue, then we recommend considering a different provider. Making use of VPNs with money-back guarantees and trial periods can help you find the right service without wasting money.

Conclusion

To sum up, the right VPN can not only level the playing field by beating server lag and skipping congestion, but it can also unblock regional content, and protect your online activity. If you’re looking to get the most out of MLBB, then here’s a reminder of our top 5 VPNs for the job:
