THE National Carnival Committee has made a decision to scrap road activities and other traditional events for this year’s Carnival and move everything to a digital platform.
Confirmation on the new direction came this morning (Oct. 2) from Minister of Culture Jonel Powell.According to the Minister, over the last several months the Committee had held discussions with key Carnival stakeholders and decided to move ahead with the plans for the staging of this season’s event.
“The reality of COVID-19 is at times uncertain and challenging. Having considered the health and safety of the citizens and residents of the Federation, as well as the unpredictability of the pandemic, the Committee, with the approval of Cabinet, has made the decision to cancel traditional events for this year’s National Carnival which would attract mass gatherings, such as all pageants, J’ouvert, Grand Parade and Last Lap celebrations,” Powell disclosed.
